Escape Travel and Cleaner Climate
Escape Travel has teamed up with Cleaner Climate to allow travellers to offset their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from air travel.
Through Cleaner Climate's international renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, you can directly contribute to programs that help offset the carbon emitted from your flight.
Calculate and offset your carbon emissions
Calculating the carbon emissions from your flight and finding out how much it will cost to offset these emissions is simple. Just click the icon located at the top right corner of this page to access the online calculator and follow the prompts.
If you choose to offset, you will be directed to a secure site where you can make your offset payment. Once completed, you will receive an offset certificate from Cleaner Climate verifying your carbon offset.
Cleaner Climate's Projects
Cleaner Climate's primary international project is a 1.2 MW wind farm facility located at the World Institute of Sustainable Energy (WISE) in Karnataka, India. The wind farm has been developed under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and is currently providing clean energy to one of the world's most polluted countries.
Cleaner Climate's Carbon projects are either governed by the regulated market (Kyoto compliant) or other government approved schemes such as Australia's Greenhouse Friendly™ scheme operated by the Federal Government of Australia.
Developing projects under these schemes ensures that the emissions reductions satisfy stringent criteria set up by the United Nations Framework on Climate Change Committee (UNFCCC) or the Australian Government. In addition, all projects are monitored by an independent third party to ensure that they produce verified carbon reductions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I contribute to climate change when I fly?
Yes. Planes generate greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) that are released into the atmosphere.
What can I do about this?
You can offset the carbon emitted during your flight.
Am I offsetting emissions of the whole plane?
No. You will only offset your personal component of the flight. This takes into consideration the embodied energy of the aircraft, Radioactive Forcing Index, class of ticket and fuel emission of aircraft.
What is offsetting?
When you buy a carbon offset, your money is used to fund energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in developing countries.
Is offsetting compulsory?
Currently in Australia there is not a compulsory carbon tax on flights. It is your choice to offset the carbon emitted from your air travel.
Who is Escape Travel Limited partnered with?
Cleaner Climate is an international integrated Carbon Solutions provider offering an entire range of Carbon solutions to companies and consumers wishing to incorporate environmental initiatives and effective climate change behavioral strategies into their portfolio or lifestyle.
Does Cleaner Climate comply with industry standards?
Yes. Climate's Carbon projects are either governed by the regulated market under the UNFCCC* (Kyoto compliant) or other government approved schemes such as Australia's Greenhouse Friendly™ scheme operated by the Federal Government of Australia.
Where does the money go?
Cleaner Climate is involved in numerous energy efficiency and renewable energy projects internationally. Using a basket approach these projects include landfill remediation (extracting methane from landfill), effective manure management, residential energy efficiency and industrial applications involving large waste streams. These projects are being implemented in South Africa, Thailand, Mexico and India and all contribute to a cleaner, low-carbon environment.

* The UNFCCC is an international environmental treaty produced at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in 1992. Its stated objective is "to achieve stabilisation of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a low enough level to prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system."
# The Gold Standard is a Non Government Organisation initiated by the World Wildlife Foundation to ensure environmental integrity and true contributions to sustainable development are in place when developing projects. This helps developing countries obtain intellectual property and transfer of technology ensuring growth and stability in communities suffering from global warming.
