The Whitsundays

When dreaming of the perfect holiday my Hubby and I dream of this:
- Long walks along the beach and in the bush
- Dining leisurely at a restaurant watching the waves lap on the sand
- Lazing on reclining chairs on the beach
- Drinking Fruity Cocktails
- Naps, and
- Soaking in the sea
When my two sons and one daughter dream of the perfect holiday they dream of this:
- Getting up very early and jumping straight into a pool
- Feeding native animals
- Playing on the sand
- Swimming in the ocean
- Eating yummy food, and
- Being occupied all day long
So, when planning the perfect holiday my Travel Agent suggested the Whitsunday's, which includes all of the above and more.
Getting to the Island is a piece of cake, we chose to fly into Proserpine Airport (there is the option of flying to Hamilton Island too), and got the bus to the boat with only a very short wait at the boat ramp, then got on the boat and arrived on the Island mid-afternoon.
As soon as we arrived at the Jetty of the Island the whole family felt as though we were in paradise. We had seen plenty of photos on the website and brochure, but nothing beat the real thing. The water was a beautiful blue/ aqua colour, the weather was a perfect temperature with a slight breeze, and the sand was so soft and white.
Our first full day on the Island was the first of 7 wonderful days in Paradise. Most days the kids went to the Kids Club that operated twice a day. They got to feed fish and birds, go for bush walks, do arts and crafts, watch the latest DVD's, and eat lots of yummy food. We were very pleasantly surprised when we found out all of this was for free too.
My Hubby and I spent the days relaxing on the beach, going for dips in the ocean, getting massages (and for me a couple of beauty treatments), and just soaking up the casual atmosphere.
On some days we went on trips all together, such as visiting the Reef and Snorkeling, going to Whitehaven Beach, and Ocean Rafting.
There is something for everyone at the Whitsundays, and is especially great for families. We chose to include meals in our package which is very cost effective and the Buffet catered for all ages.
We are definitely going back one day, but for the moment I'm just going to dream about us watching beautiful glowing sunsets sipping on Cocktails.
